Jackson Katz, PhD, recognized as one of America’s leading anti-sexist male activists, will speak at Housatonic Community College Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 7-8:30 p.m. The event is jointly sponsored by The Center for Family Justice and Family ReEntry.
“The message that Jackson Katz delivers – that males must be involved in any conversation about sexual and domestic violence – is an important message for us all to hear, especially now as the NFL struggles with these issues,” says Debra A. Greenwood, president and CEO of The Center for Family Justice. “This message ties in beautifully with our White Ribbon Campaign, which asks men and boys to sign a pledge that they do not condone violence against women, and our “Where Do You Stand Campaign,” an initiative of Connecticut Sexual Assault Crisis Services that educates men on how they can be a part of the solution to prevent sexual violence.”
“The limited and often damaging messages embedded in male socialization in America are at the root of so much tragic violence and abuse,” says Steve Lanza, executive director of Family ReEntry. “It harms everyone. Our society, our world, cannot move forward without addressing it. Ending violence against women and girls requires the fully engaged participation of men. Jackson Katz speaks to men.”

The event is free, although donations are welcome. It takes place in Beacon Hall, and coffee and cookies will be served. Free parking is available in the parking garage adjacent to the college.

The Center and Family ReEntry have collaborated for many years on issues of family and intimate-partner-violence. Co-sponsoring this event is an effort to raise awareness and facilitate change.
The Center for Family Justice is the lifeline for those suffering from domestic, sexual and child abuse in Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford and Trumbull. Family ReEntry provides intervention services to over 1,000 male family and domestic violence offenders each year.
